About Wattles
More than 1,075 species of Acacia have evolved over the last 35 million years in Australia and they are all commonly referred to as wattles. There are more species of wattle in Australia than any other woody plants, including the well-known eucalypts. In Australia today, wattles are more commonly used for garden, amenity and rehabilitation plantings than anything else but they are also part of Australian culture and have healed and sustained indigenous and colonial Australians in many fascinating ways.
