Grow your own national floral emblem – Golden Wattle
Now available for the first time – seed collected from the National Arboretum’s very own Golden Wattle Garden.
Packets of 25 Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha) seed (enough to grow 10 trees about 8 m tall) are now available through the Friends of the National Arboretum Canberra and at the Curatoreum shop (Village Centre)

Wattle Day Talk in the Golden Grove (at the end of Cork Oak Road)
Bring your own folding outdoor chair or picnic blanket and join Dr Suzette Searle, the President of the Wattle Day Association for a fascinating talk in the Golden Grove. Enjoy the glow and scent of Australia’s floral emblem in full bloom as you discover more about the significance, beauty and uses of Acacia pycnantha during a 30 minute talk.
The newly launched Wattle Seed product collected from the Golden Grove will be available to purchase at the event, your piece of the Arboretum brought to you by the Friends of the National Arboretum with thanks to the Wattle Day Association.

Community wattle planting at Yarralumla Dog Park
Celebrate the 30 Anniversary of National Wattle Day with
the planting of 30 wattles – ACT Transport Canberra and City Services
Members of the public are invited to come along and participate in a community planting event with Transport Canberra and City Services to celebrate the 30th anniversary of National Wattle Day.
Thurs.1 September 10.00 am – 11.30 am
Species to be planted: Red Stem Wattle (Acacia rubida), Blue Bush Wattle (Acacia covenyi), Silver Wattle (Acacia dealbata) and Black Wattle (Acacia mearnsii)
The dog park will remain open during this event.

Canberra landmarks will light up in green & gold
After dark on Thursday 1 September, check out the Captain Cook Memorial Jet, the National Carillon, the John Gorton Building, Old Parliament House, Questacom and Telstra Tower all lit up in green and gold for the 30 Anniversary of National Wattle Day!

Night-time dinner cruise
Check out the green and gold lights from the MV Southern Cross as she cruises around Lake Burley Griffin on the evening of Thursday 1 September 2022.
It costs $90 per person for a three course meal (paid to the Canberra Southern Cross Club (CSCC)).
